New Year, Easy Resolutions

Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution and it never seems to come to fruition? Or perhaps your friend always said they are going to be healthier in the New Year, yet somehow you always find them snacking on chips? You, my friend, are not alone. As a matter of fact, about 80% of people don’t stick to their New Year’s resolution. A lot of the reasoning behind that is pretty simple: life is hard. Let’s face it, life can throw you for a curve ball at any minute and your once inspired resolution to eat healthier or lose weight just sits in the back of your mind and becomes the least of your worries. It happens to the best of us. All the gyms in your area offer specials for their “New Year, New You” campaigns and it gets you amped up and excited to become a ‘New You’. But sometimes these exciting changes are too overbearing or life gets in the way so it never happens.

To help you stay focused this year, we have come up with some New Year’s resolutions that are not scary or audacious. They’re actually as easy as adding some fresh herbs to your daily diet to stay healthy.

  • – Adding fresh herbs to your food is a good substitute for salt. It adds extra flavor so you won’t miss that salty taste.
  • – Adding fresh herbs to your water has all sorts of benefits! Check out our blog Facelift Your Water to read about different infused water recipes and all the benefits. This is a good substitute for soda and other flavored drinks.
  • – Topping your foods with our living microgreens. They are jam packed with flavor and nutrients. They are perfect to sprinkle on top of a reduced calorie pizza, sandwich, throw in a smoothie, or toss with your salad.
  • – Make it a goal to go for a walk every day. Start out with 10 minutes and gradually add another 10 mins. Then maybe down the road your walk turns into a run.
  • – Maybe get in the habit of counting your calories. There are so many apps out there that make it easy to do it right from your phone.
  • – Get an accountability partner. Set these goals with a friend, a co-worker, or your partner. Having someone doing it with you helps keep you motivated.
  • – Drink more tea instead of coffee. Tea has caffeine as well but is better for you, so try making the switch.

These simple and easy New Year’s resolutions will help you to form good habits and get rid of the old bad ones. Lucky for you, we have also created some healthy recipes to help you stick to your confidence boosting resolutions. Our Spinach and Artichoke Pizza is made with a whole wheat crust and topped with our living microgreens for a healthy alternative to pizza night. You can also test out our Avocado Chicken Salad Sandwich that you can eat by itself or inside a sandwich. This recipe is also topped with our living arugula and microgreens to add more flavor and nutrients.

So why choose our living microgreens over cut microgreens or sprouts? Let us explain! Our microgreens are grown in sunlight, not in complete darkness like sprouts are. Reason being, the UV rays kill all salmonella in the plant. Whereas in sprouts, they are grown in dark, humid environments that lack any of Mother Nature’s salmonella killing UV rays. Nobody ever likes learning that. Plus our living microgreens are in fact still living! They are the freshest you’re going to get! Being living means they last longer than any other cut microgreens, just like all of our other herbs do. This is great because it gives you the chance to use them in more than one recipe. Our living microgreens are also great because they are FULL of nutrients. They are baby plants – which means all the nutrients and flavor of, let’s say kale, are packed into a tiny little microgreen. So you can eat a smaller amount and still get the nutrients you want as if you ate a kale salad. Not only are they high in nutrients and antioxidants, they can actually improve heart health as well.

So why not give them a try? They are easy and convenient to use as a fresh topping to all of your meals. We like to view them as if they were a salt or pepper shaker, just add to anything that requires a little more flavor. As a recap, when you are making your New Year’s resolutions for 2019, make sure they are small and obtainable, add in healthy habits (such as topping foods with living microgreens) and test out some of our healthy recipes to get you started! Remember that confidence is the direct result of competence. Habits require both discipline and time to form, so be intentional this year by beginning with the end result in mind.
