Sugar Cookies with a Twist

The perfect combination of sweet and savory.


Begin by beating butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg and continue to beat until well combined. Stir together flour and salt and add to butter mixture, beating at low speed until blended. Stir in herbs.

Divide dough into fourths and roll to ¼ inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° F for 8–10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool completely before frosting.

To make the frosting, beat the egg whites until frothy. Then on low, slowly add powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Add remaining ingredients and stir until combined. Add food coloring if desired. Frost cookies and enjoy!
