Chives

Chives are a mild, onion-flavored herb from the allium family, making them a versatile addition to a wide range of dishes. Their slender, green stalks can be snipped and sprinkled over eggs, soups, salads, potatoes, and more for a fresh, subtle kick.

Best used raw or added at the end of cooking, chives preserve their flavor and color when minimally heated. They’re also a great source of vitamins A and C, adding both nutrition and visual appeal to your meals.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

To keep your North Shore Living® Chives fresh and flavorful, store them in the refrigerator and snip only what you need, right before use. Enjoy them fresh—these herbs are grown for eating, not replanting.

Chives prefer moderate moisture, so be sure to check the root zone regularly. Water lightly as needed to keep the roots slightly damp, but not soaked.

There’s no need to peel or trim—just rinse, chop, and sprinkle for an easy burst of onion-like flavor in your favorite dishes.

FLAVOR, BENEFITS, & KITCHEN TIPS:

Chives can easily be substituted for onion in many recipes; however, it is important to understand that the longer they are cooked the less potent their flavor will be. To enjoy the full flavor of chives use them uncooked as a garnish. To use North Shore Living® Chives snip what you need from the root ball, wash and pat dry. If your recipe calls for it, mince the long stalks finely with a sharp kitchen knife. When substituting fresh herbs in a recipe calling for dry, one part dry is equal to three parts North Shore Living®.
